From the side streets comes the sound of the hammer of the "master cutler" who, beating on the anvil, forges the blade that will become "cutting iron", an art that still today makes Scarperia famous. The farmers, arriving at dawn, bring the products of their lands that will be sold at the market. For those who want to refresh themselves, the "locanda del vicariato" is the ideal place where they can taste typical dishes of the time and place. For the occasion on that day and only on that day the patrons of the day can buy and sell their goods with the current currency the "florin of Scarperia", said currency minted for the event will be changed, with cash by the "treasurers" at the two coffers. In the distance one can hear the voices of the "cantori" (singers) who animate the day with their melodies in the company of "giullari" (jesters) and "mangiafuoco" (fire-eaters) and some "meretrice" (harlot). Towards sunset, from Porta Fiorentina, the person who will take over the administration of this land in the "Diotto" comes to visit: Messer lo Novo Vicario. For the occasion the Outgoing Vicar organizes a special celebration in the large square, with the presence of all the authorities of the vicariate in honor of the New Vicar, illustrating the merits and difficulties of life as regent. Among accurate shows, exhibitions of flag-wavers and theatrical representations of the time, the day reaches its climax and its end. Now there is nothing left to do but wait for the big day "Say eight" party to which everything revolves around and for which everything is now ready. On this day it is the task of the young people of the various districts of the vicariate to pay homage to the "Novo Vicario", challenging each other with honor and galliardia on the large square in front of the palace of the Vicars who sees everything and watches over everything.
