Also known as the Church of Consolation, the Church of Santa Maria is a significant landmark situated in the main square at the entrance to Rocchette di Fazio in Semproniano.
This sacred site, dating back to the 16th century, was granted parish status in 1884, having previously belonged to the parish of Santa Cristina, thus marking its importance within the area’s religious heritage.
The building boasts fascinating architectural features, including a gabled façade with an oculus and a bell gable at the rear. The interior of the church, however, conceals an artistic treasure of great charm: a marvellous polychrome terracotta ‘Assunta’ dating from the 15th–16th centuries, which is the focus of celebrations every 15 August.
