The Church of San Giovanni in Avigliana was built as a parish church in 1324, replacing the older Church of San Pietro. The façade features a Gothic stone portal surmounted by a frescoed lunette depicting the Virgin Mary enthroned with the Child, painted in 1895 by Enrico Reffo during the restoration of the façade.

The atrium preserves important pictorial evidence, including the fresco of the Madonna and Child between Saints Christopher, John the Baptist and Anthony the Abbot, attributed to an anonymous follower of Giacomo Jaquerio, known as the Master of San Vito in Piossasco. The same space also contains several scenes attributed to the Pinerolo painters Serra, including the Visitation, a Holy Knight, the Virgin with St. Bernardino, Saints Mary Magdalene and Catherine, and the Martyrdom of St. Agatha.

All’interno della chiesa sono conservate numerose opere pittoriche di grande valore: la tavola di Sant’Orsola di Gerolamo Giovenone, la Madonna della Mercede – detta anche dei Santi Crispino e Crispiniano – di Defendente Ferrari, oltre al trittico di San Gerolamo, al polittico della Natività del 1511 e al trittico della Madonna del Consorzio. Dello stesso ambito artistico sono anche le tavole esposte nel presbiterio, raffiguranti i santi Lucia e Nicola, Sebastiano e Rocco, Sant’Antonio e San Cristoforo. Il pulpito ligneo risale al XVI secolo, mentre tra gli arredi barocchi spicca il dipinto dell’Incoronazione della Vergine con il beato Cherubino Testa e santa Caterina d’Alessandria, attribuito alla scuola saviglianese.
