The castle of Avigliana was built in 942 by Arduino Glabrione, Marquis of Turin. He remained for many centuries the key of the Val di Susa. Given its position, had considerable development, but also the destruction and looting. Was enlarged and equipped with crenellated walls and drawbridges. Lost a little at a time the appearance of feudal manor house to be transformed into a fortress, cingendosi of ramparts, trenches and grassy terraces. It was definitively destroyed by the French troops of Marshal Catinat in 1691.
