inside the Oasis Xerotermica Puy Beaulard, a shady pine forest hosts a ski trail known by hikers and mountain bike lovers. A nice track, almost always flat, that connects the town of Oulx with that of Beaulard and continues up to the height of the fraction Royeres. It is in this second portion, from 1150 meters, houses of Beaulard, up to 2600 meters above the grange Soullier found 462 hectares of forest habitats, represented by woods of Pino Silvestre, then larch, climbing at high altitude pine, shrublands to rhododendron and woods of spruce with a core of silver fir.
But this site is not identified for its forest habitats Alpine, but for the characteristic exposure of the shelf where you will find the village of Puy Beaulard around which the prairies are composed of botanical species typical of dry environments, steppici and Mediterranean sub, from which the name that indicates it as “xerotermica oasis”. The wonderful blooming orchids makes these meadowlands a priority habitat for the European Directive and the maintenance of these species is bound to the correct practice of the mowing meadows. Puy Beaulard is also the only italian site for a species of beetle Acmaeops, marginatus and for a nocturnal Lepidoptera instead linked to the presence of the bushes of hawthorn, Aglaope unfortunate that curiously has a color almost black of the wings in the adult form, when instead from Caterpillar is colorful and colorful.
