Porta dei Rocchi is the only survivor of the five that originally opened along the route of the medieval walls. It is also the only gate that stood on the western side. It is probably named after a Rocco (or Rocca) family that resided nearby. It is round-arched and has on the top the coat of arms of the Carafa-Orsini, feudal lords of Cercemaggiore in the early 16th century.
On the left half of the coat of arms are carved the horizontal bands of the Carafa, on the right half the oblique bands of the Orsini. It was, in fact, Giovanni Francesco Carafa and his wife Francesca Orsini who wanted its creation. From this doorway departed the small road that descended to the Convent.
