Giro del Vino 50 – Ph. Mathäus Gartner
Discover the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg, a surprising and original area of Trentino located between Trento and Bolzano along the Adige River valley. This area, known as the vineyard heart of Trentino, offers a wide range of outdoor activities suitable for all tastes and experience levels. With sheer cliffs, neat vineyards, and a rich cultural heritage, it is an ideal place for outdoor adventures.
We are not at high altitude, but the surrounding mountains are present in all their majesty and make for a diverse landscape, creating a beautiful combination of plains, vertical walls, and hills.
The area looks like a real big garden, characterized by a remarkable care of the countryside, mostly cultivated with vineyards, which thus serve as a backdrop for every excursion.
It is no coincidence that this is the territory of origin of some excellent wines, such as the award-winning sparkling wine metodo classico Trento DOC or the intense native red wine Teroldego Rotaliano. It goes without saying that tastings of wines, grappas, typical products and gastronomic peculiarities of Trentino cuisine are musts to be combined with any excursion or activity in this land, which is also able to fascinate for its history: the castles and elegant palaces that dot the territory tell of a past of trade, empires and cultural exchanges between the Italic and Germanic worlds.
So here are several experiences, some relaxing others more adventurous or adrenaline-pumping, to fully experience and enjoy with all the senses this unique place.
Discover Piana Rotaliana by bike with gusto
Explore the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg by bicycle and combine physical activity with local food and wine. The Wine Tour 50 is an approximately 50-km cycling route that takes you through vineyards, rivers, scenic hills and historic villages. This route offers not only breathtaking scenery but also the opportunity to stop at wineries, restaurants, and farmhouses to taste local products and wines such as Trento DOC and Teroldego Rotaliano. If you prefer, you can ride the route accompanied by a bike guide for an even more immersive experience.

Climbing on Vie Ferrate
For those seeking thrills but at a slower pace, the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg via ferrata routes are an ideal option. These spectacular routes traverse canyons, caves, jumps, stirrups and waterfalls. Located at low altitudes and with favorable exposures, they are practicable almost year-round. Of these, the Giovanelli Ravine is the best known and is also suitable for beginners and families. The Rio Secco, Favogna and Val del Rì ferratas, on the other hand, offer a higher level of difficulty, perfect for experts. If you are a first-time climber, a mountain guide can accompany you and teach you the proper use of the safety kit and the necessary techniques, allowing you to focus only on having fun!

Breathtaking views and where to find them
Put your adventurous spirit to the test! Don’t miss the breathtaking views accessible to all thanks to suspension bridges and viewing platforms. The suspension bridge in Mezzolombardo and the Zambel vantage point in Lavis are both close to their respective villages and easily accessible within a few minutes’ walk. At the Mezzocorona Mountain, on the other hand, access is facilitated by the cable car that overcomes the approximately 700m drop in just 3 minutes: from the top station you can easily reach another suspension bridge and the panoramic skywalk: both offer the sensation of walking in the void, hundreds of meters above the ground below! Relaxation and Picnic in Natural Oasis
Relax in the natural oases of the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg. The large equipped area of the Chestnut Grove on the Mezzolombardo Plains, the Sun Pond and the Ischia Pond in Mezzocorona are perfect for a picnic or a moment of relaxation surrounded by nature. The latter are easily reached on foot, from Mezzocorona or Mezzolombardo, thanks to a pleasant walk through the vineyards. During some events, it is also possible to indulge in a picnic (or aperitifs, or real dinners) among the rows of vines of some of the wineries. The traditional and characteristic Trentino double pergola is perfect for this because with its shape it provides a perfect setting for shade and scenery.

Fishing in rivers and streams
For fishing enthusiasts, the Adige River, the Noce and Avisio streams, and the Caldaro pit are popular places for fishing enthusiasts because they are populated by various species: Marbled, Brown and Rainbow Trout, Chub, Pike, Grayling and others. If you want to try your hand at the sport, all you need to do is purchase a fishing guest permit, on sale at authorized counters in the area, and check out the access areas. If, on the other hand, you are a beginner and want to spend an unforgettable morning, we suggest you try the experience of Fishing and Breakfast at Sunrise on the Walnut supported by an official “Trentino Fishing” guide.
