The Church of San Francesco is located in the square of the same name in Lucignano, Tuscany. The church, which dates back to between the second half of the 13th century and the early 14th century, has a single nave with a gabled roof, a slightly protruding transept and a polygonal apse, covered with a cross vault and flanked by two chapels. The two-coloured wall facing of the façade is rather unusual in a Franciscan church. The apse is opened by a pointed double lancet window similar in style to those on the sides.
Numerous frescoes have been discovered and restored. Among the oldest is the 14th-century fresco depicting the Triumph of Death, attributed to Bartolo di Fredi. On the left wall of the transept is a large fresco from the Sienese school with three scenes in three overlapping bands (Stigmata of St Francis, Madonna Enthroned between Saints Christopher and George, Epiphany).
