In the Roman era Larinum was a flourishing settlement of large dimensions and of ancient origin, situated on the hills of the hinterland of Molise, not far from the coast of the Adriatic sea, of considerable importance thanks to the crucial geographical location: stretched in fact over a wide area, fertile and flat (the current Flat San Leonardo), in a strategic position, because overlooking the valley and the lower course of the river Biferno, and it was also an important road junction, because located to the convergence of important axs viarii, which allowed profitable trade. And you can still admire the Roman amphitheater, the baths, the hole, the domus and some precious mosaics.
