Aretusa Puppets Museum

The Aretusa Puppets Museum is located of Ortigia shows to the public the artistic material on the tradition of the Puppet Theater. It is the first museum monothematic on Sicilian puppets in Italy. The aretusa museum traces the history of the puppet masters Syracusans, showing visitors all weò that relates to the art of the Sicilian puppets. The structure houses:

  • a library containing up to now more than 200 volumes on the puppet theater and on the history of Syracuse;
  • a videostore containing the format recordings videotape and DVD of performances made by the brothers Vaccaro, also hosts interviews and films on the Opra of the Pupi;
  • a audioteca with over 150 music cds with songs used during the representations of the work of the Sicilian puppets;
  • a periodical containing magazines, postcards and material of various kinds on the work of the Sicilian puppets.

The museum also organises guided tours on the material therein, guided visits to the laboratories of construction and guided tours behind the scenes of the theater. Also organizes Shows of Sicilian puppets, exhibitions and conventions of deepening.
