Bevilacqua Palace

The Bevilacqua Palace, located in the upper part of Curinga’s historic center, is an important example of stately architecture and a symbol of the area’s social and economic dynamics. Its strategic location, overlooking the San Eufemia Plain below, has made it a landmark for the community, testifying to the power and influence of the Bevilacqua family over the centuries.

The original core of the palace dates back to the second half of the 18th century, while the rectangular layout that characterizes the present building was defined during the 19th century. Until the 1970s, the palace remained the property of the Bevilacqua family, which played a significant role in the social and administrative life of the region, starting several entrepreneurial activities, including spinning mills and oil mills, which contributed to the economic development of Curinga.

Today, the Bevilacqua Palace houses the Territorial Museum, which will open in the coming months, offering visitors the opportunity to explore local history and culture. The building, which is of considerable size and arranged on three levels, has recently been restored, making it accessible to a wider public. Prominent among the rooms to visit is the Neolithic Hall, where terracotta artifacts, including fine pottery, found in the surrounding area are on display.

The upper floor of the palace features large reception rooms adorned with beautiful ceiling frescoes created by Zimatore-Grillo. These frescoes not only beautify the rooms, but also tell stories and legends related to the history of the family and the community. Another element of interest is the interior chapel, which preserves an altar dating back to 1861, a witness to the faith and traditions of the Bevilacqua family.

A large built-in cabinet in the dining room, located near the kitchens, is another example of the palace’s artistic and cultural heritage. The succession of halls and salons leads to a magnificent garden, currently well cared for, which is home to hundreds of bonsai trees, an ideal place for a contemplative walk and to appreciate the beauty of nature.

A short walk from the palace is the church of St. Joseph, a small, single-nave building founded in 1650, also associated with the Bevilacqua family. This connection between the palace and the church underscores the importance of the family in the religious and community life of Curinga, making the Bevilacqua Palace not only a place of great architectural value, but also a symbol of local history and culture.
