Procida is the new Italian capital of culture. This was announced by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, Dario Franceschini. 2022 will therefore be the year of Procida, a small island that preserves and promotes its identity in the world.

Procida and the rebirth of the tourism sector
Minister Franceschini’s announcement moves the Procidans: Viva Procida that accompanies us in the year of rebirth! The island succeeds the city of Parma and manages to beat such representative places as Ancona, Bari, Cerveteri, L’Aquila, Pieve di Soligo, Taranto, Trapani, Verbania and Volterra which, for this year, give way. 2020 was a difficult year for tourism, Procida therefore becomes a cultural symbol of rebirth for an entire sector.
The island is a medley of experiences to be had right from the moment of arrival: from the ship you can see the thousands of colours of the houses in the distance. Pink, blue, yellow, green, Procida is a colourful, happy island, less glamorous than nearby Capri and Ischia, but very authentic. Here the tourist is a welcome guest who, however, does not alter the identity of the land. Procida is the island of Concetta Barra, the great interpreter of the ancient repertoire of popular Neapolitan songs, but it is also the setting for Elsa Morante’s book “L’isola di Arturo” (Arturo’s Island) and for Massimo Troisi’s film “Il postino” (The Postman). Procida, however, is even more than that, it is the slow rhythm of the fishermen, the scent of lemons, it is a place where it is easy to rediscover oneself.

Procida Capital of Culture 2022 because “Culture does not isolate”.
The world of culture and politics congratulates the Procidan mayor. Among them, the mayor of Naples, Luigi de Magistris and the governor of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca have both supported the project and share a very strong bond with the island. “Culture is not an island” is the name chosen for the candidacy dossier submitted by Procidan mayor Raimondo Ambrosino.
The jury, presided over by Professor Stefano Baia Curioni, was therefore convinced by a revival project in which Procida is presented as a cultural laboratory of social happiness. The island will receive one million euros to realise what has so far been conceived on paper and there is already a great deal of operational ferment. The validity of the project has convinced everyone and is a combination of history and technology, landscape and culture.
The proposed model can therefore be a driving force for other island realities and for our coasts. The Procida project is therefore an opportunity not to be missed, which the world of tourism is looking at with hope, a sign of normality.
