Bondo Valley

Bondo Valley

The Bondo Valley is an area of great naturalistic interest and since 1980 a nature reserve.
There are many alternatives: discover the forts and defensive lines that extend from here to Passo Nota, walk through the wide meadows and pastures or stop for a picnic in nature.
More than 10,000 years ago, when the climate began to warm until it became Mediterranean, the glaciers that covered the area of Lake Garda retreated leaving a basin. (from the Celtic “bunda”) .
The Bondo torrent, which in ancient times joined the Brasa river, has seen the accumulation over the years of debris that, settling in the valley floor, created a flat area with a sandy bottom.
In very rainy seasons the valley floor fills up with water, temporarily forming a small lake.
During the Venetian domination one of the captains of the Republic of Venice came to stay in Val di Bondo. His house is still present today and has taken the name of “ca dei dogi”.
