The small church stands next to the imposing complex of Montorgiali Castle, in the hamlet of Scansano. The original building dates back to the Middle Ages but underwent radical alterations during the 18th century. The single-nave interior features a high altar and four side altars made of plaster and stucco with a certain accuracy in accordance with late Baroque stylistic elements. Of particular note are two paintings from the Sienese school from the first half of the 17th century: the Birth of the Virgin and the Madonna and Child with St Joseph in Glory.

One of the church’s most important works is the processional banner, attributed to Alessandro Casolani, which has been transferred to the diocesan museum in Pitigliano for conservation purposes. The elegant holy water font and the candelabra for the Easter candle in the apse, both dating back to the 17th century, are also noteworthy.
