Owned by the Lombard Duchy of Spoleto, the Sanctuary of San Donato was handed over to the Benedictines of the Abbey of San Vincenzo al Volturno in 778. With the spread of the cult of San Donato, the fame of this sanctuary grew considerably, becoming a destination for thousands of pilgrims. Enlarged in the 16th century, it has a Baroque appearance.
