placed in a wing of the seventeenth-century Jesuit College, today Palazzo Comunale, the Civic Archaeological Museum includes an important stratigraphic section, a didactic section and a typological section. In the stratigraphic section are exposed from the layer most recent to oldest, the finds from 50 tombs dating from the II century B.C. to the IV century B.C. the kits present document significantly culture and commercial relations of the anonymous center which should be referring this necropolis which is nowadays the most ancient sign of the human presence in Polizzi Generosa.
The exhibit more significant is undoubtedly the amphora protosiceliota with Herakles and the Nemean lion located at the end of the section, dating from the first half of the IV century B.C. and referring to an artistic personality called “painter of Polizzi” item is on the primary side, the scene of the fight between Herakles and Leo yield with a certain vivacity, and on the other side a scene of toiletries. This vase significantly contributes to a better evaluation of the ratios between the deepest attiche productions and the first local production of figurative ceramic. Many of the funerary objects exposed are referable to children and sometimes infants who were buried while for teenagers and adults is adopted the rite of cremation (in situ or secondary) and less frequently (in the first step) that of the burial.
