Rodio

Nestled between rolling hills of olive trees and rougher peaks of chestnut and strawberry trees, in the heart of the Cilento National Park, lies the village of Rodio. This small medieval village, linked to the Order of Malta since 1200, is just 7 km from Pisciotta, its hamlet.
Rodio is immersed in the unspoiled nature of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, at the foot of Mount Turmine and surrounded by majestic centuries-old olive trees of the Pisciottana variety. Life in Rodio flows quietly, characterized by the friendliness of the Rhodians and the authenticity of the local gastronomic products typical of Cilento.

Walking through the alleys of the village of Rodio, one gets lost among walls, colors and images that testify to a past still well preserved in time. At the center of the village is the Baronial Palace, recently restored and now owned by the municipality of Pisciotta, which offers itself as an ideal location for cultural initiatives.

The Landulfo Palace, named after the last family that inhabited it until the early 1900s, has interesting architectural elements typical of Baroque castles and noble palaces. Characteristic are the masks on the arch of the portal and on either side of the main doorway, which make the structure fascinating and enigmatic.

Guided tours are available to the Baronial Palace and the historic center of Rodio, where you can admire the architectural features of the place and learn about elements of local culture.

Illustrious people such as the bishop of Cerreto Sannita, Monsignor Giovanbattista De Bellis, the 17th-century Neapolitan painter Antonio De Bellis and Abbot Francesco Sacco, author of the Dizionario Istorico Geografico del Regno Di Napoli (Historical and Geographical Dictionary of the Kingdom of Naples) were born in the village.

In the main square of Rodio is the Sanctuary Church dedicated to St. Agnello Abate, dating from the 15th century. Characteristic is the bell tower with its pear-shaped dome of exquisite Baroque taste. On July 30, 2009, the Bishop of Vallo della Lucania, Monsignor Giuseppe Rocco Favale, elevated the parish church to the dignity of Diocesan Shrine of Saint Lamb Abbot, particularly dedicated to the defense and promotion of nascent life.

Rodio celebrates Saint Lamb on three different occasions during the year: May 31, August 8 and December 14. If you want to spend a vacation away from the hustle and bustle but close to tourist attractions such as the beaches of Pisciotta and Palinuro or the archaeological excavations of Velia, the village of Rodio offers several hospitality solutions.
