Church of the Annunziata

Church of the Annunziata

The Church of the Annunziata in Montesarchio dates back to the 17th – 18th centuries and was built starting in 1613 at the behest of Prince Giovanni D’Avalos of Aragon. Also participating in the expenses of its construction was Cardinal Orsini, who consecrated it in 1694.

In the middle of the nave is fixed, under the vault, a painting of the Annunciation, presumably from the 1600s, given as a gift by the D’Avalos family; behind the high altar is another drawing depicting the Annunciation in the upper part, at the foot of which are Saints John the Baptist, Severinus, Philip Neri and Dominic. The latter painting, dated 1702, is signed Joseph Castellanus, Giuseppe Castellano, a nationally renowned Neapolitan painter.
