The Cathedral of St. Nicholas of Myra, known locally as Qisha e Shën Kollit, is an important example of sacred architecture located in Lungro, in the province of Cosenza. Built in the 18th century, its construction began in 1721 and was completed in 1923, while it was opened for worship in 1822. This cathedral is the main church of the Eparchy of Lungro and is a symbol of the local Greek-Albanian community as well as of the Eastern Christian tradition.
The interior of the cathedral has an atmosphere of sacredness and beauty, thanks to the numerous frescoes and mosaics that adorn its walls, some of which date back to the Neapolitan era. A distinctive feature is the iconostasis, which is one of the most fascinating manifestations of Orthodox religious art. In the sacristy, visitors can admire a precious fragment of a fresco depicting St. Parasceve, dating from the 12th century. The three bronze doors, with high-reliefs narrating scenes from the Gospel, are another element of great artistic and spiritual significance, making the Cathedral not only a religious but also a cultural landmark.
