Polish War Cemetery

located on the same plane that runs parallel to the state road 100, from the village of Casamassima toward Bari in Puglia, is one of the four Polish cemeteries of Italy, together with those of Montecassino, Bologna and Loreto. Here are buried 430 corpses and there is also an empty grave, because the body of greater Henryk Sucharski, initially buried in Casamassima, was then translated in Poland. Here there is the military cemetery because in the course of the Second World War, the 2° Body of dispatch of the Polish army settled in Casamassima the most important military hospital in southern Italy. Soldiers who have not ec made to heal the wounds of the war were buried in Casamassima where still today are buried. Every year, on 2 November, a day of commemoration of the dead, the village of Casamassima and the Polish institutions pay homage to these fallen through a touching ceremony.
