The Arc of Shadows, in the heart of the village of Casamassima, Apulia, according to an ancient legend was populated by ghosts, who continually passed underneath. In reality, the fanciful version comes from the fact that when there was no public lighting, citizens were obliged to go around at night equipped with oil lanterns. Therefore, observing the arch from a certain distance, and seeing the shadows of the silhouettes of passersby reflected on the walls, one had the impression of seeing ghosts.
