The most famous and popular Marian site in Trentino, the Sanctuary has been the destination of numerous pilgrimages for centuries.
It is said that the Madonna appeared five times, between 1729 and 1730, to a shepherdess named Domenica Targa.
The Sanctuary is in Baroque style, dating back to 1730, and inside there is a particularly valuable altarpiece of St. Anne by Francesco Unterpergher of Cavalese.
Not far from the Sanctuary stands the Monument to the Redeemer, a 20th-century work in neo-Renaissance style with a holy staircase and a wooden group of the Crucifixion.
In the place called “la Comparsa”, a life-size cast iron group recalls the first apparition of the Madonna to Domenica Targa.
