It is a woody area, formerly a hunting place for the feudal lords of the village of Altomonte, of about 180 hectares covered by a rich vegetation of oaks, oaks and shrubs, typical of the Mediterranean area. Moreover, there is a lot of game (foxes, martens, wild boars, porcupines, hedgehogs, weasels) and endangered birds (mallards, herons, hawks and pheasants), which stop on the small lake populated with carp, chubs etc.In the autumn period it is also possible to find mushrooms, especially ovules and porcini mushrooms, in the spring one the wild asparagus.Today the illuminated and video-controlled structure offers the public a FIPSAS approved sport fishing facility, built around the artificial lake that covers a total of about eight hectares of parkland. Among the paths of the park you can find picnic areas and barbecue, mountain bike trail, life path, botanical path.The Parco del Farneto is a suitable place for Sunday trips or pleasant stops to spend a day outdoors. Finally in the evening, you can admire the stars away from the lights of the town.
