Sersale, located in the province of Catanzaro, is a charming village that rises about 800 meters above sea level, in a strategic position that offers a spectacular view of the Gulf of Squillace. With a population of about 4,700, Sersale is the largest center of the Presila Catanzarese Mountain Community and represents a perfect fusion of nature, history and culture. Its proximity to the Ionian Sea, with which it is separated by less than 10 kilometers, and to the Silan massif, only 15 kilometers away, makes Sersale an ideal place for those wishing to explore the wonders of Calabria.

The village is located along the slope of Mount Angaro, looking south, in a sunny and easily accessible area. Its historic architecture, characterized by an irregular, layered urban fabric, unfolds through narrow, winding streets, the famous "vinelle," that climb the sides of the hill. Walking through these narrow streets, one can breathe in the atmosphere of a bygone era, where the facades of the ancient noble palaces, with their stone portals, tell stories of a Calabria rich in traditions.

The historic center of Sersale is a real gem, with streets paved in granite stone leading to small squares and courtyards. Here, the silence is broken only by the sounds of nature and the chatter of passersby, creating a surreal atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Visitors can admire the historic houses, many of which have been restored, keeping their original charm intact. Every corner of the old town is an invitation to discover the architectural beauty and be taken on a journey through time.

One of the focal points of the village is Piazza C. Borelli, where the Church of San Pasquale is located. This rural church, once attached to the convent of Capuchin friars, was restored by the citizens of Sersale, who opted for a stone facade without plaster, giving it a rustic and authentic look. Next to it stands the Mother Church, an example of neoclassical architecture with an imposing facade and a portal adorned with statues. Inside, the stucco and scagliola altar houses a statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, patron saint of the town, along with another valuable marble statue dating from the 1600s.

Not far from the Mother Church is the Church of the Immaculate Conception, featuring a polychrome wooden altar and a wooden statue of the Immaculate Conception, works by an unknown master of the 17th century. The beauty of these churches is not only in their structures, but also in the meanings they carry, testifying to deep religiosity and local traditions.

At the top of the village, among picturesque stairways, stands the Church of St. Anne, while opposite the village, on Mount Crozze, is a small church dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, built in 1935 in memory of a violent earthquake and flood that struck Sersale. This mountain is not only a sacred place, but also offers one of the most beautiful views in the area, ranging from Punta Stilo to Crotone.

Sersale, then, is more than just a village: it is a place where history is intertwined with scenic beauty, inviting visitors to discover its wonders. Its privileged location, rich cultural heritage and gastronomic tradition make this village a treasure to explore.

Sersale, located in the heart of Calabria, is a village that boasts a rich food and wine tradition, characterized by typical products of the highest quality. Chestnuts, grown in abundance in the chestnut belt, are one of the local treasures: delicacies such as chestnut pasta and traditional sweets are made from chestnut flour, while "ruselle" and "vallani" offer a taste experience with roasted and boiled chestnuts.

Artisanal charcuterie is another mainstay of Sersalese gastronomy, with families who, passing on tradition, produce unique pork charcuterie products, keeping ancient recipes alive. Among the first courses, the "'mparrettati," a typical pasta served with a rich pork sauce, stands out, appreciated by all.

One cannot forget the importance of mushrooms, especially the prized porcino silano, which enriches local dishes with its intense flavor. Finally, "Pittanchiusa," a traditional dessert prepared for the holidays, embodies the history and culture of Sersale, with its simple but meaningful recipe. This food and wine heritage makes Sersale a must-visit destination for lovers of good food and culinary traditions.
