About the village

Zocca is an important village of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. It actually straddles the crest that divides the Panaro valley from those of Reno and Samoggia; an exceptional position, which gives the town a particular 'fine air' which, especially in summer, offers certain relief from the sultriness of the city.

Zocca is an important town from many points of view: thanks to the beautiful shop windows in the centre, the numerous sports facilities (such as the swimming pool, the sports centre, the tennis courts, treppi della ruzzola) and the rich schedule of events, both in winter and summer.

Not to be missed is the wonderful natural itinerary on Monte S. Giacomo, which thanks to its twenty resting areas, the beautiful clearings and chestnut groves, is one of the most panoramic points of the town. The name Zocca derives from "zoca", the word that referred to the chestnut stump where merchants used to meet, and it is certified from 1337.

The Municipality of Zocca was officially born in the middle of the 19th century (1859), after having been part of the Commune of Montalbano. It had a commercial origin: in 1465, the Duke Borso d'Este gave his permission for there to be a market.

Zocca is characterized by a wonderful mountain landscape, that tourists can admire from the city place. Furthermore, excursion lovers both on foot, mountain bike and by horse-riding will find a network of paths that go through villages, castles and churches.

Each fraction of Zocca is a small village in itself, with glimpses, beauties and peculiarities to discover.

Our news about Zocca

Halfway between Modena and Bologna, on the Appennino Emiliano, Zocca is a small village that know history and crescentine, good air and chestnuts, Borlenghi art and music. The area is rich in chestnut trees, from which it derives its name, which in local dialect frignanese means stump, log of wood, was in the middle of the Fifteenth Century a flourishing market who then became, in the first half of the XVII century, the main of this part of Emilia.

Poetry is one of the oldest oratory arts. Ageless verses that echo in eternity, reaching to the present day. The love for poetry comes this year also in Emilia-Romagna (in the photo above, of Nacchio's Brothers, a glimpse of Levizzano Rangone) thanks to Poesia Festival '19, which has always offered the best voices of contemporary poetry and famous protagonists of theater, cinema and music engaged in personal tribu...
