Orfento Valley

The Orfento Valley is a protected natural area located in the municipality of Caramanico Terme, in the heart of the Majella National Park. This area represents one of the most beautiful and evocative natural places in Italy due to its variety of landscapes and habitats.

The Valle dell'Orfento canyon is the only one in Majella to have a perennial watercourse that gives rise to one of the most fascinating habitats in this massif. The Orfento River, in fact, flows through the rocks, creating spectacular waterfalls and natural pools that run throughout the canyon.

The Blackbird, a bird that precisely in this environment feeds on the larvae of aquatic invertebrates, has become the symbol of the Reserve. Thanks to the presence of this animal species, the valley has gained great national and international importance both from a naturalistic and scientific point of view.

The area has a wealth of trails varying in length and difficulty that allow for trekking and hiking among spectacular canyons, forests and streams. Hiking in the Valley is an unforgettable experience thanks to the beauty of the mountains and the variety of activities available.
