Angera launches the dialect… digital!

It rises on the Lombard side of Lake Maggiore, which dominates the southern edge, and is one of the most fascinating fortresses in northern Italy. We are talking about the Rocca Borromea of Angera, which many tourists admire in all its beauty while walking along the Arona lakeside, which is on the opposite shore, the Piedmontese one, right in front of the Angera castle, perched on a promontory and dating back to the XI century.

The lakeside village of Angera, however, is not only represented by its “postcard” manor, but also by the great traditions of its population, very tied to its roots. Among these, the Angerese dialect, never as enhanced this year thanks to an interesting project, co-financed by the Lombardia Region, which provides for the creation of a “virtual museum of the Lombard language” through the compilation of the digital vocabulary of the Angerese dialect.

This initiative has just seen its debut at the Civic Library of Angera, where a group of Angerese citizens has organized reading events strictly in dialect to revive the Lombard linguistic heritage. Among the guests of honor, I Piott, a term used to call the Angeresi who, like good lake people, used to eat freshwater fish, in particular the piott, that is the scardola, poor fish.

«The Cumpagnia I Piott is a beautiful expression of aggregation of our community that helps keep local traditions alive – said Councilor for Culture Valeria Baietti They are people who still speak the dialect, living archives of a language that is at risk of extinction and that deserves to be protected and preserved. We are waiting for an afternoon at the library to read poems in dialect written by Angerese characters and to get to know I Piott and those who are part of it».
