Spring in Veneto: among villas on the Brenta, Prosecco hills and villages to discover

Spring in Veneto: cruise along the Brenta River among historic villas, explore the Prosecco hills and discover villages, castles and authentic flavours between Padua and Treviso.

With the arrival of spring, Veneto is transformed into a mosaic of colours and scents. While Venice remains the undisputed icon of the region, there is another Veneto, surprising and authentic, which offers the best of itself during this season: the Brenta plain and the Marca Trevigiana, between the provinces of Padua and Treviso.

Here, nature awakens, villas are reflected in tranquil waters, hills are tinged with bright green and villages come back to life with events, tastings and walks in the open air. A territory rich in art, unique landscapes, artisan traditions and excellent flavours, all to be explored right now, when the days are getting longer and the air smells of the new season.

Between the Brenta Canal and Venetian villas: spring itineraries on the water

Spring is the ideal time to discover the Naviglio del Brenta, the picturesque river route that connects Padua to the Venice lagoon. Along its banks are a succession of splendid Venetian villas, built between the 16th and 18th centuries by the patrician families of the Serenissima, who created elegant holiday residences overlooking the water here.

Among the most famous is Villa Pisani in Stra, now a National Museum, known as the ‘Queen of Venetian Villas’ and famous for Giambattista Tiepolo’s fresco in the monumental Ballroom. Not far away, in Mira, is Villa Foscari, a masterpiece by Andrea Palladio and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In spring, the Italian gardens come back into bloom and river cruises become a slow and evocative experience: navigating between locks and movable bridges allows you to admire these residences from a privileged perspective, immersed in a landscape that combines nature, art and history.

Prosecco Hills: UNESCO landscapes among vineyards and villages

With the arrival of spring, the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene are dressed in a bright, intense green. This cultural landscape, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is characterised by typical hogback hills, steep slopes interspersed with small parallel valleys, shaped over the centuries by the work of winegrowers.

Spring also means wine tourism: walks among the rows of vines, tastings in the cellars and stops in the small villages that dot the territory between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, with its Rive and prestigious Cartizze, tells the story of a deep-rooted tradition and a quality appreciated all over the world.

It is the perfect time to travel along the Strada del Prosecco, Italy’s oldest wine route, letting yourself be guided by the scents of the vineyards and the views that open up over the Treviso Pre-Alps.

Medieval castles and fortified villages between Padua and Treviso

Not just Renaissance villas: this corner of Veneto also preserves the medieval soul of its castles and walled cities. Castelfranco Veneto is emblematic, with its castle and perfectly preserved city walls, which come alive in spring with cultural events and walks through squares and porticoes.

From the foothills of the Treviso Pre-Alps to the woods of Montello and Cansiglio, spring is the ideal season for hiking, trekking and day trips. The mild climate and intense light make these landscapes ideal for those seeking nature, silence and spectacular views.

Craftsmanship and quality shopping: local excellence

Spring is also a time to discover local craft traditions. Between the Brenta area and the Marca Trevigiana region, there are important manufacturing districts: from luxury footwear in the Riviera del Brenta to ski boots in Montebelluna and household appliances in the Treviso area.

But there is also artistic craftsmanship that tells centuries-old stories: in Crespano del Grappa you can visit the ancient Melchiori printing house, in Pederobba the wrought iron workshop of Alessandro Zanini, while in the city of Treviso the Sandonà silverware workshop stands out, with over a century and a half of history.

A spring trip to this area can thus become an itinerary through workshops, studios and showrooms, where you can purchase unique products and take home an authentic piece of Veneto.

Veneto to experience in spring

The Brenta plain and the Marca Trevigiana offer a complete experience: historic villas, UNESCO hills, medieval castles, excellent food and wine, and artisan crafts. With spring just around the corner, this “other Veneto” reveals itself in all its beauty, far from the large tourist flows but rich in emotions.

It is the perfect time to organise a weekend between Padua and Treviso, letting yourself be surprised by a varied, elegant and authentic area, where every corner tells a story and every view invites you to stop, breathe and discover.
