The Italian Open Water Tour Challenge 2026 is one of the most captivating open-water swimming circuits, combining sport, nature and the chance to explore the local area in a unique experience across some of Italy’s most beautiful locations.
The Trittico dei Caruggi: the Ligurian heart of the challenge
The 2026 edition kicks off with the picturesque Trittico dei Caruggi, three stages in Liguria forming part of a national calendar of 12 events. The races take place against spectacular backdrops:
- Genoa (16 May), with the Crêuza de Mä crossing between Boccadasse, Priaruggia and Bagni San Nazaro
- Camogli (18–19 July), in the stunning marine protected area of San Fruttuoso
- Noli (13 September), in the crystal-clear waters of one of Italy’s most charming seaside villages
Stage by stage, the athletes accumulate points in an overall ranking, making the competition even more exciting.
The races: a blend of endurance, fun and teamwork
The Italian Open Water Tour Challenge is open to both experienced and amateur swimmers, with a range of ways to take part:
- Hard Swim (4,000 metres): the most challenging event, designed for endurance enthusiasts
- Smile Swim (1,852 metres): the classic nautical mile, accessible yet thrilling
- Relay Swim: a spectacular Australian-style team relay, with three swimmers taking turns on the same course
