Rustico Medioevo
Event description
From 1 to 9 August, the picturesque medieval village of Canale di Tenno once again hosts ‘Rustico Medioevo’, the eagerly awaited event that every summer transforms its narrow streets, small squares and ancient vaults into a fascinating journey into the past, featuring performances, traditions and the flavours of the lower Trentino region.
For a few days, the village comes alive with an authentic medieval atmosphere: banners, flags, torches and historical sets accompany visitors and onlookers on an immersive journey featuring street performers, duels, antique markets and live music.
The streets of Canale thus become a vast open-air stage populated by jesters, minstrels, storytellers, musicians, actors and acrobats, capable of engaging young and old alike with travelling shows and performances inspired by medieval life.
There is no shortage of traditional games and family-friendly activities, featuring popular challenges and old-fashioned fun such as sack races, the pot-breaking game, treasure hunts and medieval cross-carving.
One of the most popular aspects of the event, however, remains the traditional Trentino cuisine: in the characteristic ‘ere’ and beneath the ancient 13th-century vaults, traditional dishes such as polenta and peverada, goulash, canederli, salt cod, tripe, rustic pork loin, pork leg and other local specialities are served, prepared with passion by volunteers from the local committee.
Rustico Medioevo thus offers a unique experience that combines history, entertainment and food and wine in the heart of one of Trentino’s most charming villages.
