Hastiludium Montis – Medieval Palio

From 17 to 19 July 2026, the historic centre of Monte San Giovanni Campano, in the province of Frosinone, will once again come alive with the atmosphere of the Middle Ages with the first edition of the Medieval Palio of the Monticiano Hamlets– Hastiludium Montis, an event celebrating the history, traditions and sense of community through three days of re-enactments, games and performances.

For the occasion, the village will be transformed into an authentic medieval settlement, brought to life by costumed re-enactors, artists, musicians and period settings that will take visitors on an evocative journey back in time.

At the heart of the event will be the Medieval Palio of the Monticiano Hamlets, which will see six teams representing the various hamlets compete in tests of skill, historical games and contests inspired by medieval traditions. An exciting competition that will test strength, dexterity, strategy and team spirit, providing thrills for both participants and the public.

The programme will be enriched by travelling shows, historical re-enactments, entertainment, medieval music and events dedicated to rediscovering local history, offering an immersive experience that will captivate adults and children alike.

The Hastiludium Montis is a new event dedicated to promoting the cultural heritage of Monte San Giovanni Campano, one of the most charming villages in the Ciociaria region, dominated by its imposing castle and rich in historical artefacts.

With competitions, re-enactments and the atmosphere of times gone by, the Medieval Palio of the Monticiano Hamlets is an event that brings together tradition, entertainment and public participation, inviting visitors and enthusiasts of medieval history to enjoy an authentic experience in the heart of Lazio.
