MOM – Marsican Bear Museum & Wildlife Area

The Marsican Bear Museum in Palena is a place to learn and learn more about this wonderful endangered specimen. It is a structure composed of 5 sections, each of which contributes to our knowledge and insight into the habits and way of life of the Marsican bear.

  • The first section is the wildlife section, which contains all the necessary information about the history, biology, habitat and feeding habits of this animal;
  • The second section is dedicated to scientific research on the Marsican bear and the Maiella National Park;
  • The third section is a permanent exhibit that includes a series of videos, photographs and documents illustrating the mountain ecosystem and its creatures;
  • The fourth section is interactive and offers educational activities for children and adults;
  • The fifth section is the educational section, where one can find educational materials, such as drawings and books, that emphasize the beauty of nature and the importance of conservation.
  • The Marsican Bear Museum in Palena is a unique place full of information and entertainment, where visitors can learn a lot about the Marsican bear and the mountain ecosystem.

Open days and visiting shifts

March, April, May: all weekends and holidays, 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

June, July, August, September: daily, 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

N.B. The choice of shift should be evaluated by favoring the cooler hours according to the visiting period.

October, November, February: all weekends and holidays, 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

December and January: guided tours are suspended to comply with the hibernation period.

RESERVATION MANDATORY by 6 p.m. on the previous day.
