Among Muggia’s cultural attractions, the Beethovenian Library surprisingly stands out: a large private collection that preserves historical and artistic evidence about the great composer Ludwig van Beethoven (Bonn 1770 – Vienna 1827), his works and his myth from the early 19th century to the present. It is a large museum (more than 11,000 original and authenticated pieces), founded by the Carrino family (Sergio, with his wife Giuliana and their son Ludovico) in more than forty years of tireless and passionate research around the world, which the director of the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn has described as unique in size and orientation.
The collection is organized into twelve collections displayed in the fascinating rooms of the house-museum: more than 150 sculptures and paintings, 800 art graphics, 350 exlibris, 2700 vintage and modern postcards, 1400 postage stamps, 550 medals, 4500 publications (in first edition and original dress) on the life and works, as well as original scores, art objects, period photographs, masks, hall programs, figurines, an astonishing collection of advertisements and réclamés, and even coffee, wine, and sweets dedicated to Beethoven (prepared in house).
The Beethoven Library has won prestigious international awards and mentions: it has been invited to exhibit its collections in Bonn (Beethoven-Haus, 2013), Paris (Philharmonie de Paris, Musée de la Musique, 2017) in Baden (Vienna) in 2019, and maintains collaborations with MUK and the Wien Museum in Vienna.
