completely built in stone, with a masonry thickness up to 4 meters, Dal Verme castle of Zavattarello is a formidable complex medieval architectural that has endured numerous sieges. This impregnable fortress of the Oltrepo Pavese montano owes its name to the family that for six centuries has marked the history of the castle: the family Dal Verme. From the terrace and from the tower you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding territory: the green countryside, the fresh woods, hills with the other castles in the area – Montalto Pavese, Valverde, Tower of trees, Pietragavina. It is well understood, from here, the strategic choice of the place where to build this manor. The imposing fortress dominates the medieval village perched on a hill that was once completely devoid of vegetation to allow the defenders of the manor of sight every attacker. Today instead green that surrounds the castle is a protected area, a park of about 79 hectares, full of peace and silence, where you can discover fairytale angles. We invite you to come and discover the beauty and history, art and architecture, the past and the future of this medieval castle entirely restored and can be visited. Events, ceremonies, exhibitions, festivals, conferences animate these rooms where old and new blend together, creating a single braid soaked with emotion.
In the halls of the castle Dal Verme of Zavattarello since 2003 it has housed a collection of contemporary art in continuous growth and development, which constitutes only one of the attractions offered to the visitors that thousands every year rose to visit the medieval fortress. The Contemporary Art Museum exposes the works of Italian art from the second half of the XX century to today, in addition to paintings more ancient paintings by Count Giuseppe Dal Verme, owner of the castle at the beginning of the Twentieth Century. Precisely to the Artist Count Giuseppe Dal Verme and his wife Titina Gavazzi is titled the Museum, as an act of homage to the great love for art and for this fortress, donated to the nationality of Zavattarello by the heirs in 1975. Each year the castle rooms also host numerous temporary exhibitions in the cycle “Summer Art”: personal and collective shows of emerging artists and famous, with an eye to the relationship with the territory.
