Church of San Giorgio

Church of San Giorgio

The sixteenth-century Church of San Giorgio is the main place of worship in Tellaro and, with its pink façade, stands close to the sea: inside you can admire a nineteenth-century organ and a beautiful altarpiece dating from the sixteenth century. The bell tower of the church was the ancient watchtower that stood out from the walls surrounding the village: legend has it that the church bells were rung one night in the 17th century by a giant octopus that emerged from the sea and warned the population of the imminent arrival of Saracen pirates.
