The Sabiona monastery (in German Kloster Säben) rises on a high cliff that supervises the village of Chiusa in Val d’Isarco, in South Tyrol. Sabiona is the spiritual cradle of the entire Tyrol and constitutes one of the most ancient Christian monuments of the region and of the alpine arc. The monastery can be visited starting from the town of Chiusa and walking along the path of an ancient Via Crucis (30 minutes). Here you can visit the ancient chapel of the Madonna, the conventual church, the church of Santa Croce and the commemorative fountain. The defense of the cliff of the monastery is situated a little more down even the Torre del Capitano, also called Branzoll Castle. Currently and for almost three hundred years the monastery is the seat of a community of Benedictine nuns, which at the moment are only in 11 and live in the cloister.
