The Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie and San Giacomo della Marca is one of the most important religious complexes in the Marche region, deeply linked to the figure of San Giacomo della Marca. The construction of the Franciscan convent dates back to 1449, when the saint himself commissioned its building, giving rise to a place destined to become a centre of spirituality and pilgrimage.
The complex is organised around a charming cloister and a church rich in artistic treasures. The interior houses works of great value, attributed to important artists such as Vincenzo Pagani and Cola dell’Amatrice, which help to make the sanctuary a veritable treasure trove of art as well as faith.
Inside the church, there are three main chapels, each with its own identity and function. The first, on the right, is the ancient chapel of the Saint, dating back to 1543, now used as a confessional. The second is dedicated to Our Lady of Grace and houses a precious terracotta image of the Virgin, dating from the 15th century and the object of deep popular devotion.
The third chapel, dedicated to Saint James of the Marches, represents the spiritual heart of the sanctuary: it houses the saint’s incorrupt body, a destination for pilgrims from all over Italy and a symbol of the continuity of the Franciscan tradition in the region.
Taken as a whole, the sanctuary of Monteprandone is a place where art, history and spirituality blend harmoniously, offering visitors an intense and authentic experience marked by devotion and remembrance.
