The Fiore Sardo Museum is housed in a stately home that once belonged to the Lai family. This renovated exhibition facility is entirely dedicated to Fiore Sardo, a product of excellence of Sardinian and Gavoese sheep farming.
The museum itinerary aims to create suggestions, stimulate curiosity and offer alternative points of view on a product that goes beyond the simple gastronomic aspect, characterizing an entire human, natural and cultural world.
The museum offers installations, videos, images, traditional and modern tools related to the creation of the cheese, known for its Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). The itinerary is enriched by targeted architectural choices, images by Slovenian photographer Žiga Koritnik, and videos from the documentary “Fiore Sardo,” produced by the Municipality of Gavoi, Ipotesi Cinema and shot by director Fabio Olmi with his crew.
The building features rooms on the ground floor with exposed stone and barrel vaults, designed for sensory paths and tastings. On the upper floor is the display of traditional tools used for cheese making, creating a blend of past and present. The walls of the rooms are adorned with Žiga Koritnik’s images documenting the different stages of cheese making.
The second floor hosts the screening of the documentary made by director Fabio Olmi, which evocatively narrates the life of the pastoral community and its production activities. The upper floor of the building is often dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
