in this place, in the autumn of 1532 was held an assembly of Barba, the medieval preachers coming from the Valdese area (Piemonte, Calabria, Provence), and many heads the Waldensians to discuss whether to join the Protestant Reformation.
The debate was lit, but the words of an exponent of the first floor of the Protestant Reformation, Guglielmo Farel, and beard Martino Gonin convinced most present to adhere to the Reform. The debate lasted a week, also attended the people and led to an historic decision because it marked the entry of the Valdese movement within the scope of the reform. In this place, in 1932, a monument was erected to commemorate the event.
Today Chanforan, whose name is the french form of the term foran field, is the place where the autumn fair takes place.
