In the heart of Basilicata, between the rolling hills of Metapontino and the clear waters of the Ionian Sea, lies Pisticci: a charming village, guardian of history, traditions and breathtaking views. Characterized by the whiteness of the houses in the Dirupo district, with their red roofs contrasting with the blue of the sky and the sea, Pisticci is an authentic pearl of Lucania, where the hinterland blends harmoniously with the coast.
A village to admire… and to live
The historic center of Pisticci is an evocative labyrinth of alleys and stairways that tell centuries of history and culture. Strolling through the Dirupo district-the symbol of the village-you are surrounded by an expanse of white cottages lined up like a nativity scene, born after a landslide in 1688 and now an architectural icon. But the village also offers gems such as the Mother Church of Saints Peter and Paul and the Castle of St. Basil, which enrich the visitor’s cultural experience.
The sea in Pisticci: Blue Flag and much more
In addition to the beauty of its historic center, Pisticci also boasts an award-winning and renowned coastline. Its marina, known as Marina di Pisticci, overlooks an unspoiled stretch of the Lucanian Ionian coast, with golden beaches, natural dunes, pine forests and clear waters. It is precisely here that the sea meets excellence, confirmed by the three awards the village can boast:
Blue Flag, for water quality, services and environmental management;
Lilla Flag, which rewards accessibility and tourist inclusion for people with disabilities;
Green Flag, awarded by pediatricians to child-friendly seaside resorts, for safety, fine sand and family-friendly services.
A trifecta of excellence that makes Pisticci an ideal destination for families, couples and travelers seeking authenticity.
Pisticci, home of Amaro Lucano
Not everyone knows that Pisticci is the home of Amaro Lucano, one of Italy’s most famous liqueurs. It was right here that, at the end of the 19th century, Pasquale Vena gave birth to this secret blend of medicinal herbs, destined to become an icon of made in Italy. Even today the Lucano Amaro Factory is located in Pisticci Scalo and is a landmark for the community and visitors. The Museo dell’Amaro Lucano allows visitors to retrace the history of the company and discover how this unmistakable elixir with an intense and aromatic taste, a symbol of an entire land, was created.
