Lying at the foot of the Black Horn, the village of Varena (Varéna in fiammazzo) is known for the center of the bottom and which natural paradise for lovers of this discipline. Walking through its streets you can admire the typical monolithic fountains of porphyry. According to the tradition, the fountains of Varena stood the best drinking water of the valley. To visit the church of Varena dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and consecrated in the twelfth century. The Gothic interior still preserves traces of medieval decoration, works of Longo and paintings of the Unterperger. Spectacular walks plains and views around the village. Attracts many visitors the great crib in Varena "on track of Bethlehem", with hundreds of characters and animals that reproduce, in perfect Arabic style, the scenario of the Nativity.
The plateau of Lavazé Pass, 8 km from Varena, is one between the environments more fascinating of Val di Fiemme, from the point of view of landscape. The huge expanse of meadows, framed by fir, larch and cirmoli, is overhung by the Pala di Santa (2.488 m.). From the pass you can enjoy a beautiful panorama on the Rosengarten and Latemar, Dolomite peaks that, every sunset, offer the spectacle of the enrosadira. Every winter, the favorable altitude (1.769-2.150 m.) makes it practicable from December to April the tracks for cross-country skiing. In the renowned center of wheelbase Lavazé-Oclini cross-country skiing meets the trekking on the snow and skiing. In addition to the 80 kilometers of cross-country skiing runs, that you submit also in conifer forests, there are lifts and slopes for downhill skiing, tracks for snow and snow park for toboggan, bob and inflatable boats.
The plateau is also the seat of an important center for ski-orientation which has hosted World Cup races and Alpen Cup. From Passo Lavazé of a road connects the Val di Fiemme with the Val d'Ega, in the province of Bolzano, and another leads to Passo Oclini, also in South Tyrol.
