About the village

Campo nell Elba is located on the Island of Elba in Tuscany. It consists of several towns, whose capital is Marina di Campo. In the territory there are also included the island of Pianosa, the islet of Scola and, from 1927, Lo Scoglio of Africa. In the western part of the village there is the Costa del Sol, that encloses locality among the mostù famous and beautiful of the island.

During the Middle Ages under the Republic of Pisa, with the Municipality de Campo is indicated the two countries hills of San Piero in Campo and Sant'Ilario in field. The current town of Marina di Campo arose in the course of the following centuries near the plain (in Latin campus) anciently called for its peculiarityà wetland, the Maremma of Elba. The inhabited area, said Port i Campo, developed around the Tower of Marina di Campo, attested by 1596, and to the small church of San Gaetano da Thiene. Nearby there is the ancient church of San Mamiliano, implant protoromanico perhaps and documented from the XIV century, that preserves some bone relics of the Saint.
