In the heart of Trentino-South Tyrol, in the mountains of Val Ridanna, a unique trekking adventure awaits you: The Seven Lakes Tour offers an unforgettable hiking experience. Since the name already suggests it, it is no exaggeration to say that this fascinating route combines the natural beauty of crystal clear lakes with the wild mountains of Ratschings – Let’s find out more about this enchanting tour!
Vogelsee
A popular loop hike in the foothills of the Stubai Alps
Absolutely unsuitable for sleepyheads, this hike should not be started late in the morning, as seven to eight hours of walking should be expected to accomplish the Seven Lakes tour, not counting the elevation gain to be overcome of approx. 1,400 m. Does this already seem too strenuous? Don’t worry, the beauty of the landscape rewards any effort! And besides, there is a shuttle bus that goes up to the Malga Massaro (Poschhaus) thus saving time, meters of elevation gain and energy. So – how do you proceed? Starting from the small village of Masseria, located at the head of the Ridanna Valley and home to the Monteneve Mining World, the choice is yours: You can either take the shuttle bus or climb the first 600m of the route’s elevation gain on your own strength as well, which leads up to the Massaro Alp via the Lazzago Valley. Most hikers take advantage of the shuttle service, then enjoy the scenic tour at length, which still reserves quite a few meters of elevation gain. Continuing the hike, after an ascent of approx. 340 m, you reach the first lake, from which there is an enchanting view of the Massaro White Rocks, also called the Ridanna Dolomites.
Rocce Bianche del Massaro
Once you reach the Harrow Pass and the second lake, all the elevation gain has been overcome. One then proceeds downhill, skirting the third, fourth and fifth lakes, some larger, some smaller, and all endowed with distinct characteristics. At the end of a long walk you arrive at number six, also known as Lake Torbo, unmistakable for its variety of bright colors and perfect for a stop on its shores. Immediately one feels the soothing and calming effect on the mind and refreshing on tired limbs. After the sixth lake, most hikers continue their descent into the valley, arriving back at the starting point in Masseria. To reach number seven (Pfurnsee), two more hours and more meters of elevation gain must be put into account. As always, the effort is as guaranteed as the reward.
