Castelluccio degli Eroi – Unsupported Bicycle Adventure
Event description
On 30 August 2026, Castelluccio di Norcia will host ‘Castelluccio degli Eroi – Unsupported Bicycle Adventure’, a self-supported bikepacking challenge that traverses the spectacular landscapes of the Sibillini Mountains between Umbria and Marche.
The event offers an endurance challenge of approximately 143 km with 3,800 metres of elevation gain, to be completed within 24 hours by following the official GPS route in total self-sufficiency, without any assistance along the way.
The route passes through some of the most iconic scenery of the central Apennines, linking the areas of Norcia, Visso and Arquata del Tronto and crossing the Castelluccio plateau with panoramic views over Pian Grande and Pian Piccolo.
Participants tackle nine climbs and an equal number of challenging descents, alternating between dirt tracks, mountain roads and constant changes of pace in a unique high-altitude natural setting.
The start is flexible from various points across the region, and navigation is via a road book or GPS track provided by the organisers, with activity monitored through tracking systems.
More than just a race, Castelluccio degli Eroi represents an experience of endurance and personal discovery, where each cyclist tackles the route at their own pace, immersed in the wild nature of the Sibillini Mountains.
Those who complete the course within the time limit will officially join the list of “Heroes of Castelluccio”, receiving a dedicated digital certificate.
