Description

Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico 2021 is one of the finest examples of the Veronese winemaking tradition, a wine of extraordinary elegance and complexity made from selected grapes from the Valpolicella Classica region that have undergone the traditional drying process. A great red wine for meditation, capable of expressing power, finesse and a remarkable ability to evolve over time.

The grapes are harvested from the hillside vineyards of the Valpolicella Classica area and left to dry for a period of between 80 and 100 days, concentrating the aromas, structure and richness of flavour. The long ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels completes the maturation process, imparting harmony, depth and extraordinary elegance to the wine.

Drying and Ageing

The grapes undergo a traditional drying period of between 80 and 100 days.

Ageing:

  • Over 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels ranging from 15 to 50 hl
  • Approximately 6 months of bottle ageing

Tasting Notes

Visually, it presents an intense deep ruby red, almost impenetrable, enriched with elegant garnet hues.

The bouquet is broad, refined and complex. Notes of ripe cherry, blackcurrant and prune emerge, accompanied by hints of milk chocolate, rhubarb and delicate balsamic sensations of mentholated tobacco.

On the palate, it reveals great structure and balance. The tannins, ripe and well-integrated, support an enveloping and persistent texture. The alcohol content is perfectly balanced by a lively citrus freshness that lends vigour and harmony to the palate.

Colour: Deep ruby red with garnet highlights
Nose: Ripe cherry, blackcurrant, prune, chocolate, rhubarb and mentholated tobacco
Palate: Structured, enveloping, elegant and persistent
Finish: Long, harmonious and of great complexity

Food Pairings

Perfect with substantial, flavourful dishes:

  • Hare in salmì
  • Roast turkey with truffles
  • Braised and slow-cooked beef
  • Amarone risotto
  • Game and red meats

At its peak, it pairs magnificently with very mature and flavourful cheeses, including blue-veined or slightly spicy varieties. For lovers of unusual pairings, it also surprises when served with traditional cotechino.
