Medieval Markets in the Village

📅 21 November 2026 – 22 November 2026

On 21 and 22 November 2026, the charming old town of Savignano sul Panaro will once again be steeped in the atmosphere of days gone by with the traditional Medieval Markets in the Old Town, one of the most distinctive events of the Emilian autumn. For two days, the historic centre will be transformed into an authentic medieval village, where history, craftsmanship, gastronomy and Christmas traditions come together in a unique and captivating atmosphere.

The event is one of the region’s most beloved celebrations and offers a chance to relive the charm of the Middle Ages amongst the narrow streets, small squares and ancient houses that provide the backdrop to an experience sure to captivate visitors of all ages. Adding to the atmosphere will be torches lit along the walls of the houses, bonfires illuminating the streets, and people in medieval costume bringing the village to life throughout the event.

The markets will host numerous stalls specialising in arts and crafts, Christmas decorations, gifts and items crafted using ancient traditional techniques. Strolling among the stalls, you’ll find original gift ideas, handcrafted products and unique creations, all set against a backdrop that evokes the markets of yesteryear.

Food will also take centre stage. The food stalls dotted along the route will offer a wide selection of traditional Emilian specialities and classic flavours. The menu will include borlenghi, piadina, crescente, grilled sausage and many other dishes prepared on the spot. For those with a sweet tooth, there will be fried cream, doughnuts, roasted chestnuts, ciacci and strudel, accompanied by hot drinks and local wines. Among the most popular options are mulled wine, hot chocolate, Irish coffee and craft beers.

Rounding off the programme will be a charming exhibition of nativity scenes set up along the village streets, offering a taste of the magic of the Christmas season. There will also be travelling shows, traditional games, animated readings for the little ones and entertainment designed for the whole family.

The days will be accompanied by live music, with bagpipe concerts and classical music performances that will help to make the medieval atmosphere even more enchanting. Amidst soft lighting, authentic flavours and historic traditions, the Medieval Markets in the village of Savignano sul Panaro offer an immersive experience that combines culture, history and the Christmas spirit.

An unmissable event for anyone looking to enjoy a weekend with a difference, strolling through the charming medieval streets in the heart of Emilia-Romagna.
