The Goffredo Parise House of Culture stands in Ponte di Piave, among the lands dear to the writer who found peace here for his last years of life. It was Parise himself, who passed away in 1986, who left his home to the municipality with two conditions: to be able to rest in his home garden and to transform the building into a cultural center dedicated to the memory of his work. This is how his home has now become a living space, open to the public, where literature meets art and the great author’s personal history merges with that of the area.
The second floor, once the atelier of artist Giosetta Fioroni, now houses the municipal library, the beating heart of activities and meetings that keep alive the cultural spirit the writer wanted. On the ground floor, on the other hand, time seems to have stood still: here the house has remained intact as Parise left it, transforming itself into an evocative House Museum. Among furniture, furnishings, clothes, books and personal items, visitors can immerse themselves in the intimacy of the writer, discovering his passions, habits and deepest thoughts.
The rooms also hold a valuable collection of contemporary artworks, the result of Parise’s friendship with the great protagonists of Rome’s Piazza del Popolo school: works by Mario Schifano, Giosetta Fioroni, Franco Angeli, Tano Festa, De Pisis, as well as Ceroli, Ontani and Chia can be admired. This collection testifies to Parise’s connection with the most vibrant artistic environment of the Italian twentieth century.
The house also preserves the Parise Archive, with autographs, correspondence, articles and period materials: a valuable source for scholars and enthusiasts who want to learn more about the author’s life and work.
The garden, where Parise’s ashes are kept as per his wishes, completes the visit: a silent and evocative place that reflects the writer’s love for the landscape of the Piave River, indirect protagonist of many of his stories.
Today the Goffredo Parise House of Culture is a landmark for Ponte di Piave and for those who wish to get to know more closely one of the greatest Italian writers of the 20th century, author of the famous Sillabari, intense and poetic works inspired precisely by the memories and places of these lands.
