Church of Santa Lucia

Church of Santa Lucia

The Church of Santa Lucia in Montefalco is situated in the oldest part of the village, nestled within a maze of narrow alleys and passageways so narrow that they are inaccessible to traffic, creating an intimate and evocative atmosphere.

The building, dating back to the 12th century, features a simple gabled façade, surmounted by a small bell gable situated in a central position. Its austere appearance reflects the church’s medieval origins and its function as a place of worship for the local community.

Inside, despite several attempts at restoration following a long period of neglect that began as early as 1295, only two fragments of 14th-century frescoes remain. These pictorial traces, though limited, represent a valuable testimony to the building’s artistic and religious history.
