On the entrance portal of the palace, adorned with two carved corbels, is a cast of the bas-relief depicting Saint Galgano being led by the Archangel Michael to the hill of Montesiepi. The original, by Giovanni di Agostino, executed around 1330 (no doubt before 1348, the year of the famous sculptor’s death), is kept in the home of the parish priest provost of Chiusdino.
Inside the chapel below, in the right-hand corner, can be seen the boulder in which, according to legend, the knees of Saint Galgano’s horse genuflected at the appearance of Saint Michael the Archangel were imprinted; the stone was moved here in 1958 from its original location along the road between Chiusdino and the castle of Luriano.
