Church of SS Peter and Biagio

The Church of Saints Peter and Biagio, small in size, in its present form dates back to the 15th century but was rebuilt over an earlier 13th-century church and two flood-damaged shrines. The facade was frescoed between 1506 and 1508, and the author, who remains unknown, belonged to the Tolmezzo school. The entrance portal, which bears an engraved date of 1492, was made in florid Gothic style and is the work of Biagio de’ Meritis and Antonio de Locria.

The interior has a single nave with a trussed roof; remains of 13th- and 14th-century frescoes can still be seen along the walls. In the chancel the altarpiece with Saint Blaise enthroned is by Cividale painter Pietro Miani and dates from 1507, while the predella was painted by Secante Secanti in the early 17th century with scenes of the saint’s Martyrdom. In the lunette is an Annunciation by Marco Vecellio, dating from 1604. To the right is a side chapel dedicated to St. Blaise, with frescoes depicting Stories from the life of the saint. In the same chapel is a fresco with Saint Blaise enthroned and along the plinth a depiction of the Months.
